Maybe you got lucky this year and didn't get sick during the holidays. That's great news. But what isn't so great is suffering from something just as horrible: seasonal allergies.
For many allergy sufferers, this year has been one of the worst in recent memory. It all started last winter when cold temperatures pushed spring allergies into the summer. Now, the warm air has pushed fall allergies into the winter.
"Usually around Christmas, things slow down a little bit, people getting ready for the holidays. This year, people are coming in with typical bronchitis, typical allergy seasons," said Dr. Steven Rosenberg, who specializes in allergies in Central Florida.
He continued on by saying, "We're seeing again the pollens, and it's causing a lot of problems. Business has not slowed down."
For those who typically skip or reduce allergy medications in the winter, it's best that you stick to your normal routine this winter. Doing so will ensure your immune system stays strong as you battle allergies.
Other strategies you can take to manage allergies include purchasing allergy-free bedding, air filtration devices, HEPA-certified air conditioners, humidifiers and dehumidifiers and mold-control cleaners. While cleaning, always wear respiratory devices or masks to control allergy and asthma symptoms. Finally, if possible, avoid going outside during 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. when allergies are most aggressive.
