Over-the-counter medications may not be strong enough for some allergy sufferers

In some parts of the country, it feels like winter may never end, but the truth is that spring is just around the corner. With the transition of seasons comes the warmer weather and longer days that people have been looking forward to all winter, but it's important to remember that spring also marks the return of seasonal allergies for millions of individuals nationwide.

With this in mind, the Houston Chronicle recently published an article that provides some helpful advice on how to treat seasonal allergies. The source reports that while many people take over-the-counter medications in an effort to reduce their symptoms, in some cases they may need something a bit stronger that they can only get from a doctor.

"Over-the-counter allergy medications – such as Claritin (loratidine), Allegra (fexofenadine) and Zyrtec (cetirizine) – provide relief for those who experience mild to moderate symptoms for short periods of time, such as a stretch of days with high counts of the particular pollen to which they are allergic," explains the news outlet. "More severe, longer-lasting symptoms require stronger and different types of drugs."

If you suffer from seasonal allergies, experts recommend that you see your allergy specialist before your symptoms become unbearable. By beginning your treatment early on, you have a better chance of breathing easier this spring.

In addition to taking medication, there are simple steps you can take around the house to keep symptoms at a minimum, such as investing in allergenic bedding or an allergen air purifier. Browse the Allergy Be Gone website today to learn more!
