4 better practices for avoiding allergy symptoms

Replacing the mattress covers and pillow casings will help you remove some of the allergens from your home.

Recently on this blog, we talked a bit about how being outside and getting sufficient vitamin D from natural resources may actually help asthma sufferers across the board. Here at Allergy Be Gone, we believe in treatments that work, and practices that are natural to our system as a way of combating symptoms before trying supplemental allergy prevention. But sometimes, sufferers need medications, products and tools that help them to deal with the symptoms that plague them.

Before purchasing any new medications though, there are a few things that you might try to reduce the impact that environmental factors have on your immune system and sinuses this fall and winter.

Batten down the hatches: Or don't. According to some researchers, getting plenty of fresh, outdoor air can help you breath easier. It's really no wonder, considering that fresh air circulates allergens more frequently than stagnant air inside your house might, and can clear the air.

Lose the shoes: When you enter your home, the best thing you can do for the allergy-prone that you live with is to remove your shoes outside the home, or at least in a mudroom near the front entrance. It is a good idea to remove outerwear in this space too, as pollen and other airborne allergens can cling to your clothing while you're outside.
"You don't want to track in all the E.coli, local pesticides; you don't want to take that into your home," Robin Wilson, ambassador for the Asthma and Allergy Association for America, said in an interview with FoxNews.com.

Swap out sheets: When you are in your house, making sure that household items like your bed, couch or blankets are not working against you is key to staying healthy. Swap out bed sheets for hypoallergenic bedding and be sure to wash it in hot water once a week to remove allergens. It is also important that you swap out pillow and box spring covers because these also can collect airborne allergens that will work their way into your system. Additionally, wiping down the smooth surfaces in your home – like cushions, countertops and shelving – will help you to stay healthy.

Treatment: In the winter months, it is easy for allergy symptoms to go untreated because people think that what they are experiencing may just be the common cold. But if you start to feel symptoms you normally associate with allergies, you will want to consult with a medical professional so that you know you are treating your symptoms appropriately.

No matter what symptoms you experience, being sure to take all necessary precautions to alleviate your allergy symptoms is key to keeping yourself healthy. To learn about how Allergy Be Gone can help, visit us online today.
