Stay allergen-free on Valentine's Day

Don't let your Valentine's Day plans be ruined by allergies.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and it's time to start thinking about what you're going to do for your loved ones on the special day. Something to ask yourself before you make any big plans is whether or not your sweetie suffers from allergies, since there's nothing like an allergic reaction to put a damper on a night of romance.

Before you buy any chocolates or special Valentine's Day treats, check to see if your partner has food allergies. According to ABC News, Sees Company of San Francisco is recalling all its 8 ounce, heart-shaped boxes of chocolates because they contain undeclared tree nuts. The chocolates were distributed nation-wide, and customers who purchased these boxes are being encouraged to return them for a full refund at the store where they were purchased.

Additionally, if you're buying a gift for Valentine's Day, make sure it's one your date can use without any negative reactions. For instance, many people buy colognes, perfumes and scented lotions for Valentine's Day, but some people experience difficulty breathing when exposed to strong scents. If your loved one has asthma, for instance, then you may be better off choosing a non-scented surprise.

If you're going to go the jewelry route, check to see what kind of metal you're purchasing. If your partner has sensitive skin, then you may want to stick to sterling silver and gold, because these are less likely to cause irritation and rashes.
