If you're thinking about traveling this winter to escape allergens, make sure you properly prepare. In the first part of our two-part series, we suggested that you first research your destination and talk to your doctor. By researching, you can avoid areas that are heavy with allergens. When talking with your doctor, he or she can tell you how to better manage allergies away from home and refill allergy prescriptions.
Here are a couple of more pieces of advice to help you manage allergies on vacation.
1. Be alert
Let's say you're going on a week-long cruise. While this appears to be the perfect vacation to go on for allergy sufferers, allergens could still become a problem. For example, what if you travel to an area that has a high pollen count that day?
Before traveling, research the areas you'll be visiting. If you're going on a cruise, call the cruise line and ask it how it manages allergens on board. Are there a lot of shrubs, flowers and greenery on deck? Does the staff consistently clean and dust the boat?
2. Do the same thing you do at home
If you normally stay inside during peak hours of the day while at home, do the same thing on vacation. Visit museums or see a show during the day and go outside during the evening.
