For the one in 12 adults and children in the United States who have asthma, the internet can be a great resource for learning more about the condition, engaging with others who also have it and staying current on all the latest research.
On January 24, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Teva Respiratory published a press release announcing the launch of their new website, Get Smart About Asthma, a comprehensive online resource that examines the underlying causes of the chronic respiratory disease.
Although the website features a plethora of general information about asthma, the organizations say that the main purpose of it is to increase the understanding of how inflammation – one of the underlying causes of asthma – factors into the condition. Additionally, the website will provide downloadable tool kits and discussion guides to help individuals manage their symptoms.
“Many of the 25 million Americans who suffer from asthma may know the basics about their condition, but [Get Smart About Asthma] will expand their knowledge even more,” pediatric pulmonologist Dr. LeRoy Graham of Georgia Pediatric Pulmonology Associates was quoted as saying in the press release. “Asthma is a life-long condition that, if not managed properly, can also be life-threatening. It is important for patients to have a thorough understanding about their asthma, including how to manage chronic inflammation on a daily basis.”
In addition to following advice from a doctor to limit the severity of asthma symptoms, as well as keeping up-to-date on the latest research regarding this chronic respiratory disease, individuals may want to invest in a whole house air purifier, a product that can make the home more comfortable by removing allergens directly from the air.
