It's no big surprise that porches don't get a lot of use when it's cold outside, so it's understandable if you've neglected to keep this extra room clean in the off-season. But with nice weather just around the corner, it's time to prepare for hot days and warm nights spent in this part of the house.
As part of your spring cleaning this year, consider these tips for beautifying your porch:
Don't forget the ceiling – Since this part of the house wasn't used very much during the winter, there's a good chance that cobwebs and dust have accumulated over the months. Use a broom to knock down anything that may be clinging to the corners and remember to dust any items you have hanging from the ceiling.
Sweep the floor – After you've cleaned up most of the area, a lot of debris probably will have built up on the floor of your porch. If it's an open area, you can even opt to rinse it down with some water.
Wash the windows – Pick an overcast day and make that glass look shiny and new with a hypoallergenic cleaning product. If the sun's out, the formula can dry too quickly on the window, leaving behind ugly streaks.
For people who suffer from allergies and asthma, there are special products that can ensure you don't have a negative reaction while cleaning out your porch or other parts of your home this spring. However, since cleaning can stir up allergens such as pollen, mold and pet dander, it's also a good idea to wear a respirator mask during the process to prevent these irritants from getting into your lungs.
