Don’t let spring allergies interfere with your outdoor exercise

As the weather gets warmer, more and more people will begin exercising outside once again. However, if you're one of the millions of people who suffer from seasonal allergies, this can be challenging. Don't let your allergies get in the way of your workout routine. Follow these helpful tips:

  • Cover your hair – If you don't plan to wash your hair immediately after you exercise, you should definitely wear a hat so pollen doesn't cling to your hair. A baseball cap is perfect because it also protects you from the sun.
  • Know when to take your medicine – "Work with your pharmacist or doctor to discuss the side effects of your allergy medicines and when you should take them," states the Huffington Post. "This way, you can avoid taking a medicine that will drag you down minutes before you plan to exercise."
  • Pay attention to the pollen count – Certain parts of the day—like early in the morning—are worse than others. If you typically exercise in the beginning of the day, you may want to consider changing things up so that you work out in the afternoon when the pollen count is lower.
  • Protect your eyes – Wear sunglasses or protective goggles so the pollen can't get in your eyes.
