The acceptance of this application was delivered at the beginning of August, with regulatory action expected in March of 2015.
Flonase – Developed by GlaxoSmithKiline, Flonase – or fluticasone propionate – has been approved by the FDA as a treatment for hay fever and upper respiratory allergy problems. This product will be available in an over-the-counter nasal spray for 24-hour, non-drowsy allergy relief. Previously, Flonase was approved as a prescription medication and has been available as an over-the-counter drug in the UK for the past decade under different names, including Flixonase and Pirinase.
"For those with allergies, being able to find simple, effective relief over the counter may mean the difference between a day lost to allergies and a day enjoying their favorite activities," vice president of research and development for GlaxoSmithKline Vidhu Bansal-Dev said in a press release.
Fluticasone furoate – Another GlaxoSmithKline product known as Arnuity Ellipta is an inhalation powder that can be used as a once-daily corticosteroid. The FDA has approved this drug as an asthma treatment and prophylactic therapy for children and adults 12 years and older, but is not indicated as a treatment for bronchospasm. The safety and effectiveness of this drug has been tested in over 3,600 patients, and was found to work very well for asthmatics.
