A lot of people love to sit near windows at work. They may enjoy the fresh breeze. The scenery. The distraction. The staring at anything but their computers. However, the one thing allergy sufferers hate about opening windows is getting a big whiff of pollen.
If you suffer from allergies at work, how can you better protect yourself? Here are four ways:
1. Get away from the window
I know we just described all of the benefits of sitting near the window, but, let's be honest, it's not doing your nasal passages any good. You're constantly being exposed to pollen and ragweed, unless, of course, you keep the windows closed. While you can't stop others from opening their windows, do yourself a favor and move to a more central location of the office.
2. Clean your desk
Along with pollen and ragweed buildup, your desk and computer also accumulate dust. Thoroughly wash the desk at least once a week. When cleaning, shut down your computer to ensure you don't hit a wire. This keeps you and your documents safe.
3. Take allergy medicine
For the sake of you and your coworkers, don't skimp on taking allergy medicine. While allergies themselves don't cause illnesses, they do provoke sneezing and coughing, which spreads germs. In turn, this could eventually spread bacteria or viruses and make office workers sick.
4. Avoid outdoor jobs
If you suffer from allergies, landscaping jobs won't be kind to you. The last thing you'll be stressing out about is working in hot weather. In between water breaks, you'll also be sneezing and wheezing. Avoid jobs that require you to be outside for a long period of time.
