3 sources of spring allergies

Don't let sneezing get it in the way of spring fun. To manage them, find the source of your allergies.

Figuring out the source of your allergies is the first step in managing them, but the only thing more frustrating than having to manage allergies is trying to find their source. It's not easy to do, especially if you've never dealt with them before. Don't let sneezing and coughing take up most of your day. Here are three common allergy sources:

1. Pets
Millions of people in the U.S have dogs, and many of them also likely suffer from pet allergies  Pet dander is in every home, and it can lead to typical allergy symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, red and itchy eyes and sneezing. Unlike pollen allergies, people who are allergic to pets may also experience skin reactions.

2. Pollen
Prior to taking any allergy medicine, it's important that you visit an allergy specialist. These specialists will provide you with an allergy test. From there, you can take the appropriate prescription or over-the-counter medicine.

Upon meeting your allergy doctor, he or she will likely provide you with some tips to help you manage your allergies. These could include staying indoors between peak times of the day and using an HVAC system instead of relying on windows. For more information, you can also check out The Weather Channel's tree pollen map which details areas of the U.S. that have high levels of tree pollen

3. Dust
Dust has likely been building up in your home all winter, so that means you need to get ready for spring cleaning by preparing for dust allergies. When cleaning, always remember to wear a mask and open the windows, as long as pollen counts are low.
