If you suffer from allergies and are planning a vacation, remember to prepare accordingly. Here are some allergy-relief tips for when you travel:
1. Clean the inside of your vehicle
Have you ever left your car windows open and then returned an hour later to the insides blanked with a coat of yellow? And then, did you shut the windows, turn the AC on and have your allergies act up? Pollen is the culprit. Clean the inside of your car for dirt, dust and pollen prior to any major road trip and always shut your windows!
2. Bring water or nasal spray on planes
Linda Ford, an allergist with the Asthma and Allergy Center in Papillion, NE suggests, "Use it [nasal spray] once an hour to keep nasal passages moist." Air planes can be very dry and once you're in the air there is no way to fix your allergy problems if you lack proper medication and have a flair up.
Also, remember to bring enough water to keep you hydrated and get you through the flight. You can bring as much water as you want as long as you purchase it past the screening station.
3. Understand TSA's medication policies.
WebMD suggests that you keep all medications in their original packaging "to avoid running afoul of the Transportation Security Administration." However, TSA says otherwise. "TSA does not require passengers to have medications in prescription bottles." So what do you do? It's still recommended you perform research because each state has its own laws regarding a passenger's prescription medication.
TSA has a number of exceptions for medication as long as you check in with an officer prior to scanning it through the x-ray machine.
