As we approach the end of this year, many homeowner will be looking to move, some will be seeking a downsize from their current properties, and all will attempt to improve the day-to-day lives of their loved ones with whatever choices they make. For allergy sufferers, a big part of ensuring safety, happiness and overall quality of life is to ensure that the home you live in is a healthy one. But this isn't always an easy task, because even when your home is clean and free of irritating allergens, the great outdoors never are, and it can be hard to maintain your allergy control regimen when the weather conditions are always altering.
This past allergy season was especially bad for sufferers, as an extended warm season left triggers in the atmosphere much longer than is normally allowed for.
But even with all of this in mind, there are some areas of the nation that are more conducive to maintaining a healthy lifestyle than others. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, some cities and towns are worse for the allergy prone than others.
In a study which examined data of pollen scores – which includes airborne grass/tree/weed pollen and mold spores – the number of allergy medications used per patient and the number of allergy specialists per patient, the AAFA determined the allergy capitals of the country.
According to that report, the top five worst cities to live in if you have allergies in 2014 are:
- Louisville, KY
- Wichita, KS
- Oklahoma, OK
- Dayton, OH
- McAllen, TX
