A recent study published in the journal Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology indicates that there is an association between stress and allergy flare-ups. According to the Huffington Post, researchers found that 39 percent of the low-stress individuals surveyed reported experiencing more than one allergy flare over the course of the study, while 64 percent of those with high stress levels had more than four allergy flares during the same time period.
"Symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes can cause added stress for allergy sufferers, and may even be the root of stress for some," said study researcher Dr. Amber Patterson of Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University, in a press statement. "While alleviating stress won't cure allergies, it may help decrease episodes of intense symptoms."
