Erratic weather continues to wreak havoc on allergy sufferers

The weather has certainly been erratic in parts of the United States. For example, last week in Central Texas, the temperature hit the 80s on Tuesday and then dropped all the way down to the 20s just two days later. According to local news source WacoTrib.com, the bizarre weather has kicked spring allergy season off earlier than usual and may even be contributing to worse-than-usual symptoms.

The source reports that doctors have seen an influx of patients in their offices in recent weeks complaining about spring allergies. The air has been particularly dry this year, and doctors say that it's causing the mountain cedar—one of the area's most ubiquitous allergens—to linger in the air longer than normal.

The weather isn't the only thing contributing to severe allergy symptoms though. The news outlet notes that since March is the month of Spring Break, many people are becoming exposed to different irritants during travel or while they're around large amounts of friends or family members.

"After spring break, the kids get together and they start having colds or infections, and whenever they get sick, their allergies get worse," Dr. N.J. Amar of the Allergy & Asthma Center of Waco told the source. "They feed each other — allergies make them prone to get infections, and when they get infections, (the allergies) stay longer."

Don't let your allergies interfere with your quality of life. In addition to seeing a doctor and taking any medication that has been prescribed to you, there are small changes you can make around the house to reduce your exposure to common pollutants.
