Las Vegas residents hit with harsh seasonal allergies

Although recent research reveals that seasonal allergies are prevalent all over the country, the fact remains that people in certain areas are exposed to a greater number of triggers. For example, in Las Vegas, a large mix of pollen, mulberry and juniper is causing people to suffer from this affliction earlier in the season than usual.

"I see allergy patients almost every day," Dr. Lubna Javed of Healthcare Partners told 8 News NOW, a regional news outlet. "The problem here is the dryness plays the most important role. It's so dry. Another thing is that we have a lot of desert landscape here, so lots of weed, lots of ragweed, lots of dust."

According to the source, people often have a difficult time telling the difference between allergies and the common cold, as both can lead to the same set of symptoms. While there's no cure for allergies, there are medications that doctors can prescribe that can make a significant difference in patients' quality of life while certain triggers remain particularly prevalent.

That being said, Dr. Javed says that it's important to keep an eye on the side effects you may suffer as a result of these medications. Some can lead to high blood pressure.
