Fall allergies can be especially hard on students

Seasonal allergies can be difficult for everyone, but often it's students who feel the strongest effects of this affliction. According to North Carolina news outlet WBTV, fall allergies are even worse this year than usual, which, when mixed with indoor irritants and the common cold, can create a "perfect storm" of unpleasant triggers that make it hard for children and teenagers to stay alert and focused on their schoolwork.

"I have them every fall," Geneva Bass, a freshman at Farmington High School in Michigan, explained to CM Life. "It gets distracting a lot, because my head gets stuffed up and it becomes hard to think. Fall is when you need to think the most."

So, what can students do to keep their allergies under control this fall?

Dr. Maeve O'Connor, an allergy specialist, told WBTV that it's important for them to know "what the triggers are, to have an action plan [and] to know what medications they need to take if they do have symptoms." By working closely with a physician, it's possible to maintain a good quality of life throughout allergy season.

The good news is that there are also allergy control products that people can invest in for their homes. An allergen air purifier, for example, works by eliminating common household irritants directly from the air so that you don't have to breathe them in. At Allergy Be Gone, we sell these effective devices, as well as other items such as hypoallergenic mattresses, that can make a big difference in your overall well-being.
