In an October 2 press release, Adiga Life Sciences announced that it had recently found new treatments for two of the most common types of allergies: grass pollen and dust mite.
"It is estimated that together, these allergens are responsible for more than 50 percent of allergic respiratory disease," states the source. "Between 15 and 25 per cent of the population in North America and Europe is sensitive to pollen from different grass species. One in four people is sensitized to house dust mites, more than any other common allergen, which includes millions of people in these regions."
According to the release, researchers examined 172 dust mite allergy patients and 280 grass pollen allergy patients to see how they responded to three months of 'synthetic peptide (immunoregulatory epitopes' (SPIREs) treatments. Individuals who were given this new class of therapy showed significant signs of improvement compared to those who received placebos. The researchers involved with the study said that the data has helped them realize that SPIREs may be successfully used for other types of allergies as well.
This is great news for the millions of people across the United States who are forced to deal with mild to severe allergy symptoms on a regular basis. Fortunately, in addition to medical treatments, there are other ways that people can prevent their allergies from getting out of control.
