Wearing sunglasses may help with seasonal allergies

If you have seasonal allergies, you understand first hand how difficult it can be to find a solution for your suffering. Although medications prescribed by specialists can certainly help, there are other ways you can try to bring on some extra relief.

According to Men's Health News, researchers in Turkey recently determined that wearing sunglasses outside during daylight hours had a positive effect on allergy patients. The reason why, states the source, is that the sunglasses reduce your eyes' exposure to UV rays and pollen, which are both known to exacerbate symptoms. When the eyes are protected, patients may even experience relief in their nasal passages as well, since these body parts are connected.

As far as which kinds of sunglasses are ideal, the researchers found that bigger was better.

"If you just have a plain piece of glass between you and the outside world, with open space in between, air currents can go behind it," Dr. Leonard Bielory, an allergy specialist at Rutgers University, told the news outlet. "The more blockage you have on the sides, top, and bottom — where it touches the cheek, the eyebrow, and the temple region—the more you decrease the amount of pollen that gets in."

In addition to wearing sunglasses, there are other simple ways to find relief this allergy season. An allergen air purifier, for example, is an effective device that removes irritants directly from the air so you're not breathing them in while you're at home.
