AAFA publishes list of top 10 worst cities for fall allergies

The Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) recently published its annual Fall Allergy Capitals report, which lists the top 100 cities in the United States where seasonal allergies are at their most severe. The source examined a number of factors that are contributing to this season's debilitating mold and ragweed allergy symptoms, which include issues such as climate change, carbon dioxide levels, and damaging weather events like hurricanes and tornadoes.

According to the AAFA, these are the top 10 worst cities to live in this fall if you suffer from seasonal allergies:

  1. Wichita, Kansas
  2. Jackson, Mississippi
  3. Knoxville, Tennessee,
  4. Louisville, Kentucky
  5. Memphis, Tennessee
  6. McAllen, Texas
  7. Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  8. Dayton, Ohio
  9. Chattanooga, Tennessee
  10. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Even if you don't reside in one of these urban areas, there's still a good chance that you may be feeling the effects of mold and ragweed allergies for the next few months.

"Allergies are bad everywhere," Michael Kaliner, medical director of the Maryland-based Institute for Asthma and Allergy, said in an interview with USA Today. "If allergies are left untreated or treated with the wrong medication, it can cause some serious complications."

So, what should you do to combat your allergy symptoms?

First and foremost, it's in your best interest to schedule an appointment with a specialist who can pinpoint the exact cause of your allergies and prescribe the right medications. Then, there are allergy products you can purchase for your house to improve your overall comfort level.
