Immunologist suggests healthy living builds immunity to seasonal allergies

Dr. Josh Wagner, an Immunologist based in New York, has suggested that the answer to controlling seasonal allergies lies in nurturing your immune system.
In a new report released by Wagner, who has published numerous books on healthy living, he offers solutions that go beyond avoiding pollen and other allergens, and involve boosting your body's ability to tolerate them.
Instead, Wagner stated that a healthy diet and self-aware lifestyle together can fight the main cause of allergy suffering.
One way to give your immune system a boost, the report suggested, is incorporating Omega-3 acids into your daily diet. Cold water fish are a good source of these fatty acids and are easy to come by. Regular ingestion of Omega-3s reduces inflammation in the body, which helps increase immune system function.
Also in the report, increasing the intake of Vitamins C and D benefits the immune system's reaction to allergens. Wagner emphasized allergy sufferers not avoid sunlight, as this is the primary way the human body gets vitamin D – a huge booster to the human immune system in moderate quantities.
Wagner also suggested that keeping allergens out of the home helps the immune system take stock of the changes to an allergy sufferers lifestyle. Though the body can build up immunities to allergies, constant exposure to allergens does slow the process. By eliminating allergens in places where they are avoidable, tackling them in the great outdoors is an easier task.
Ventilating where you sleep with a HEPA air filtration system will keep a bedroom free of common airborne allergens that will bother the respiratory system. Keeping the kitchen dry and ventilated will also reduce unnecessary exposure. Taking small steps to boost your body's defenses will make allergy season much more tolerable.
