9 ways to allergy-proof your house this fall: Part One

Make sure you consult with your doctor about potential allergies before allergy-proofing your home.

Don't let allergies get the better of you this fall. While most associate allergy season with spring and summer, your nose can get just as congested in the autumn. Prevent this from happening by  adhering to the following three pieces of advice:

1. Figure out what you're allergic to

The first step is the most basic one: find out what you're allergic to. For example, you may always keep the windows shut in fear of letting pollen enter your home, but you find out you're actually allergic to dogs. You could have shut down the air conditioning and opened the windows the entire time.

2. Maintain the air conditioner

Just because it's fall doesn't mean the weather suddenly turns cool. Often, up until September and October, temperatures can reach into the 80s, meaning you may have to keep the AC on. A well-maintained air conditioning with clean filters can cut pollen counts as much as 90 percent or more.

Also, consider how ragweed allergies can last through the end of fall, which makes using the AC all the more necessary. Make sure your appliances are always updated and upgraded.

3. Allergy-proof your bedroom

As we said before, it's important to figure out what you're allergic to before allergy-proofing your home so you can form a better attack strategy. If you find out you're having allergic reactions to mites, for example, cover your mattress and pillows with zip-on dust mite covers.

Another way to manage allergies is to avoid triggers. Visit Allergy Be Gone's store for a wide range of allergy control products.
