9 unique ways to clean your house to prevent allergies: Part 2

Cool down and stay allergy free this summer with ice cubes.

Allergens are aggressive and it'll take some creative thinking to keep them away from you this summer. The following are a few interesting ways to clean your house to fight allergies.

1. Ice cubes

It'll be tough to use ice cubes for anything, but staying cool this summer. However, sacrificing a few cubes can go a long way to keeping your garbage disposal in good shape and smelling fresh. Throw in a handful of ice cubes every few weeks along with some fresh oranges, lemons or lime peels. Another idea is to freeze white vinegar and toss these cubes into the disposal. The ice cubes will absorb a lot of the grime that sticks to the disposal's blades.

2. Vacuum your AC unit

Over the course of a year, your AC will become clogged with dirt, dust and debris. That's not a good thing if you're hoping to stay cool and allergy-free this summer. "Clogged cooling fins, a low coolant level, a dirty blower fan filter and a number of other simple problems can significant;y reduce the efficiency of your air conditioner and wear it out faster," noted FamilyHandyMan.

Cleaning your AC unit could cost you upwards of $120 or more if you hire a professional, but you can do it yourself. It'll take about three hours.

3. Vinegar and blinds

Having trouble removing dust and hard sticking allergens and dirt on your windows' blinds?Try using an old sock and a mixture of vinegar and water. Slip the sock onto your hand and dip it into a bowl of vinegar. Wipe down each blind and clean off the sock by dipping it into some cleaner. After you've finished you can use a clean sock to dry each blind.
