Seasonal allergy sufferers should look for air quality alerts

Those who suffer from seasonal allergies should check the air quality alerts in their area.

Since the weather patterns in the United States may feel wildly unpredictable at times, those who suffer from seasonal allergies may want to do more than simply check the forecast to decide what precautions to take on any given day. Doing so could ensure that allergy sufferers take the right steps to mitigate their symptoms.

To increase their preparedness for days with particularly high pollen counts, these individuals can check the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's daily air quality alerts. These alerts are often issued during times when the air is dry, flowers are pollinating in abundance and grasses and trees create problems for allergy and asthma sufferers.

In addition, state-specific resources are available. In Michigan, for example, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality issues statements when conditions are likely to cause complications for those with seasonal allergies.

By frequently checking these alerts, these Americans can avoid prolonged exposure to the elements, take more frequent showers to help drain their sinuses and keep the air conditioner on in their home. This last technique can be used even during the fall months when the temperature is mild but pollen counts are still high.

As a result, those suffering from allergies or asthma may want to purchase a window or through-the-wall air conditioner even during the later months of the year. For those with multiple levels in their home or who may be on a tight budget, a portable air conditioner or electric fan would also help alleviate symptoms.

Before purchasing a more complex air conditioning unit that could prove to be expensive, these individuals may want to browse the prices of trusted resellers, especially those who can offer installation, extended warranties and many of the other benefits that usually come with a high price tag.
