Preventing allergies is often the best way to stop them

Allergies can ruin a summer if you don't know how to manage them correctly.

All summer you've been longing to spend time in the park. You want to enjoy the beautiful weather while reading a good book, getting some work done on your laptop and eating a hardy lunch under the protective umbrella of oak and maple trees.

However, your summer has included everything but that because of your vicious allergies. And, unfortunately, you have no idea how to control them. You've seemingly tried everything.

Allergist Janna Tuck, fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, proposes that allergy sufferers have a comprehensive strategy when fighting allergies. She believes it's important to get ahead of symptoms before they occur and to not stop medication too quickly.

"The most important reminder is to start taking fall allergy medication two weeks or so before symptoms usually begin," says Dr. Tuck. "You should also continue your medication for two weeks after the first frost. Both nasal and eye symptoms associated with ragweed allergies can linger after pollen is no longer in the air."

While many sufferers take medication, many fail to do so consistently, which prevents the body from building up an appropriate defense system. For example, people should take allergy tablets for grass and ragweed pollens at least three months prior to allergy season. If sufferers start their program too late, their body will be playing catch-up to the onslaught of allergens.

Another way to manage allergens is to avoid triggers. Visit Allergy Be Gone's store for a wide range of allergy control products.
