People who live on farms may have less severe environmental allergy symptoms

Did you know that living on a farm may have a positive effect on your environmental allergy symptoms? According to a new study published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, people who reside in rural communities endure more frequent exposure to certain irritants, which can help limit their hypersensitivity to common allergens. In fact, even adults who move to the country later in life can reap these benefits.

"Previously, the assumption was that only persons who had lived in farming areas while growing up would benefit from the environment's protective effect on the immune system," said postdoc Grethe Elholm, one of the individuals involved in the study. "But now we can demonstrate that it's not too late simply because you are an adult."

The source notes that in spite of this research, it's impossible to say that relocating to a farm would completely clear up allergy symptoms — most notably because the high concentrations of certain particles in these areas could exacerbate chronic respiratory diseases that these patients may also suffer from.

The good news is that no matter where you live, there are steps you can take toward maintaining a good quality of life in spite of your allergies. At Allergy Be Gone, we sell a number of items that can make a significant difference in your overall well-being. Hypoallergenic bedding, for example, ensures that tiny particles don't become trapped in your mattress and sheets while you're sleeping.
