New salt rooms proving to be an effective alternative treatment for allergies

Salt rooms are becoming a popular way to treat allergies.

For those who don't want to use traditional medicines, alternative ones are always an option. In previous posts, we've highlighted a few of them including acupuncture, massage therapy and herbal remedies. Some natural remedies to manage allergies include bee pollen smoothie, apple cider vinegar and neti pot and saline rinse. If you're a picky eater, these might not appeal to you. So, here's another option: salt rooms.

Salt Therapy is becoming a more popular alternative medicine to treat allergies, and they look exactly how they sound. An entire room is covered from the ceiling to the floor in different types of salt. The walls are covered with clear salts, the floors with rock salts and pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride is pumped into the air using a salt-generator. There's simply no way to escape the salt, and that's a good thing according to Kelly Fernandez, co-owner of Breathe It in Salt Room in North Little Rock.

"It's really good for people with asthma, allergies, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchitis, cold and flu, also the skin," Fernandez said.

For Devin Jackson, a 7-year-old boy, salt rooms have been a life-changing medicine. Jackson had a severe and sudden allergy attack one day while playing soccer.

"After the first visit he had gotten rid of some congestion we didn't even know he had, and after the next visit, he only used the inhaler once all weekend during sports," said Jackson.
