6 ways to manage allergies while on vacation: Part 1

Don't suffer from allergies this year. Enjoy your vacation.

You probably have many goals when you go vacation. Some of them likely include relaxing, spending time with friends and family and experiencing new places. One of those objectives, however, is not dealing with allergies.

Managing allergies doesn't have to be difficult when you go away. It's not like you have to upend your entire allergy-managing routine just because you're gone for a week. In this two-part series, we explore six ways you can manage allergies while you're on vacation.

1. Pack allergy medication
This seems obvious, but how many times have you packed for a vacation and forgot to bring something? Forgetting to pack bathroom materials or clothing is one thing, but not remembering to bring your prescribed allergy medicine is another. Before packing, make a list and put allergy medicine at the top of it.

2. Research lodging
Don't just book a hotel because it has great rates. Thoroughly research it beforehand. Check to see if the hotelcaters to peoplewith allergies. Does it allow pets? Does it use allergy-free bedding? Does its domestic staff clean the room daily? These are the types of questions that should lead your research.

3. Consider when you travel
If you suffer from severe allergies, travel in the winter. If you typically have allergic reactions to ragweed, which is a fall allergy, make your travel arrangements for the summer. If the time of year doesn't matter – you have allergies year-round – consider a different approach: Plan a vacation where you'll be inside a lot. Maybe instead of spending time outdoors, visit a lot of museums or other indoor attractions.
