4 foods allergy sufferers should be eating

Many foods, including pineapple, can help reduce allergen irritants.

Medicine, holistic life changes and avoiding peak allergy times are just some of the ways to prevent allergens and irritants from reaching you this season. But what if there was another way? With allergy season upon us, having a plan to combat typical seasonal allergy symptoms could be the last line of defense between you and the outside.

According to One Green Planet, food changes and implementations can also help alleviate allergy symptoms. Before adding in any new foods, make sure you are also not allergic to those as well. The most common food allergens include peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy fish and shellfish.

Discover the following four foods you can eat this season to combat allergies including:

  • Garlic: Research has shown garlic promotes a healthy heart and reduces high blood pressure. It can also inhibit the activity of certain enzymes which can cause inflammation.
  • Green tea: According to Heal with Food, catechines found in green tea can inhibit enzymes that convert histidine to histamines.
  • Omega-3's: Omega-3 acids can help lower inflammation in the bloodstream. Some food rich in these fatty acids include pumpkin seeds, flax and walnuts.
  • Pineapple: Rich in Vitamin C, pineapples can reduce allergic responses as well as improve overall immune system health. They are also known for their detoxifying qualities which can help cleanse the body.

In addition, cross food reactions can also be a factor that contributes to allergies. Foods such as apricots and wheat are related to Birch trees, while tomatoes and oranges can be traced to grass pollen allergens. You don't have to completely cut out these foods from your diet, but knowing food relations can help you keep track of what exactly could be bothering you.
