3 things you need to know about allergies this season

Know the allergy season before it gets you right in the nose.

This season is set to be the worst allergy irritating, nose assaulting, symptom causing time many of us will ever have to experience. Or maybe it doesn't have to be. Arm yourself with allergy information before the onslaught begins to protect yourself before mother nature strikes.

  • April showers can bring more than May flowers: According to Discovery News, thunderstorms can actually trigger allergies. During a storm, high winds and wet conditions can cause pollen particles to move in erratic currents, oftentimes settling in your nose or eyes.
  • Be aware of more potent pollen: Carbon dioxide can cause certain plants to thrive. With global warming becoming an increasingly hot topic,  it's no wonder that our allergies are catching the brunt of the deal. Carbon can create more proteins and fats in pollen, making it multiply at a faster rate.
  • Pretreatment could be your new best friend: Treating allergies before symptoms actually start can help prevent further histamine irritation. Blocking histamine receptors can replace the work your body will have to do in order to fight off a response once it is triggered. Find an allergy medication that fights your side effects for a better response based on your personal needs.

In addition, a new type of immunotherapy has recently been approved by the FDA. According to CBS Minnesota, exposing yourself to small amounts of what you're allergic to could boost your immune system's future ability to ward off irritants and other allergens. This could help those that suffer from allergies such as nuts, pollen and animal dander.
