Why am I always sneezing?

You could be surrounded by flowers and grass but still not be affected by allergies.

Millions of Americans suffer from allergy symptoms, and just as many struggle to keep them under control. But why are they so difficult to manage?

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology there's a lot more to allergies and managing them than you may have expected. Let's discuss a couple of characteristics of allergies you may not have considered:

1. There are a lot of allergies
When we think of allergies, we typically picture pollen floating through the air or blanketing vehicles. However, pollen is just an umbrella term that encompasses countless types of allergens. Remember, trees produce pollen as do flowers and grasses. And, from there, we can break down each of these species further.

2. We're not allergic to everything
Despite having extreme sneezing fits, we're not allergic to everything. The ACCAI makes a great point when they note that high pollen counts don't mean you'll necessarily suffer from allergies that day. For example, tree pollen may be high but grass pollen may be low. If you're allergic to trees and stand in the middle of a prairie, you might not have an allergy attack.

Of course, discretion is advised. If you have severe allergy symptoms and pollen counts are high, we don't advice taking any risks. Avoid allergens and take medicine.
