What you should know about indoor allergies

Clean your home regularly to manage allergen build up.

If indoor allergies have been bothering you all summer, you certainly can't go outside. So what should you do about it? First and foremost, you need to understand what's causing you to sneeze and cough all day.

Jason Dobranic, Ph.D., vice president of microbiology and life sciences at EMSL Analytical, Inc., said that a home can contain a number of allergies. And his list of allergy-producing items should give you pause.

"Dusty indoor environments can aggravate allergies and there are a number of common allergens that are frequently present in homes, schools and office environments," said Dobranic, according to a press release. "These include cat, dog, cockroach, dust mite, rodent and latex allergens. If a property has suffered water damage or high humidity levels, it could also have mold growth resulting in elevated levels of airborne mold spores and fragments. These could trigger allergy symptoms or even an asthma attack in some people who suffer from the condition."

If you want to control your allergies, remember to clean your home regularly, keep the windows closed, brush off your shoes prior to entering your home and seal off any cracks. Also, always take your allergy medicines. This ensures your body builds up a solid defense to allergens that it needs to maintain throughout the year.

You should be able to enjoy the comforts of your own home. By adhering to this advice you'll be able to.
