The type of carpet you have may be increasing your allergies

The wrong carpet can increase allergic reactions.

Who would have thought controlling allergies is more difficult than just purchasing medicine from your local pharmacy? While medicine helps, you're still going to battle a stuffy and runny nose if you don't take additional steps to suppress invading allergens.

Cleaning the filters of your vents and air conditioning, washing down windows, removing drapes and keeping windows closed during peak hours are all excellent ways to manage allergies. However, have you ever thought about your carpets?

The very floor you walk on all day contains countless allergens and dust particles. Now, a Swedish study, which compounded research over a 15-year span, found that carpets do not increase allergic reactions.  It concluded carpets actually help trap the particles, thus reducing the chance of you spending your nights coughing and suffering from watery eyes.

While this may be the case, the problem lies in when you vacuum. Cleaning the rug releases all of those trapped allergens into the air at once and the body of an allergy sufferer is unlikely to be able to handle it.

To solve this problem, upgrade your vacuum cleaner and think about installing low pile instead of high pile carpets. Low pile carpets are flatter than the fluffy high pile ones and are easier to clean and manage. They contain tightly woven fibers which means they trap less allergens and dust. This type of carpet is perfect for playrooms or nurseries where kids are constantly rolling toys across it and releasing particles.

Another way to manage allergens is to avoid triggers. Visit Allergy Be Gone's store for a wide range of allergy control products.
