Safeguarding Yourself this Allergy Season

Tips for Surviving This Allergy Season

Every allergy season seems to feel worse than the last. And in fact, that may be true. Scientists have found that factors such as greenhouse gas emissions, global warming, and the over-planting of male plants have all contributed to rising pollen counts. New therapies have been making their way into the consumer market such as more effective, more specific shots, and now the advent of the novel allergy droplet. Those methods, though intriguing, do not work for all and are not as accessible for everyone. Here are some good old-fashioned tips on how to safeguard yourself this allergy season.

According to Asthma & Allergy Care expert, Dr. Bassett, here are some good, old-fashioned tips on how to safeguard yourself this allergy season:

Avoid fans – Avoid window fans and unclean air devices. These can introduce mold spores and really make your life miserable. Mold spores can also cause bronchial infections should they be inhaled.

Medicate yourself – Take over-the-counter allergy control medicine before going out to preemptively fight off any irritation.

Protect your eyes – Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes to avoid itchiness and irritation. At night, wearing a cool eye compressor may alleviate already puffy eyes and avoid further aggravation.

Roll up the windows – When driving, roll up the windows and set the air conditioning to "re-circulating" so as not to introduce more pollen into you vehicle. Before your car ride, make a note to clean out your air conditioning filters for optimum filtration.

Wear a hat – Don't use hair gel. Hair gel attracts pollen which will eventually get on your face, eyes and in your throat causing discomfort. Instead, wear a hat. Hats keep pollen off your head, face, eyes and throat.
