How to relieve your summer allergy symptoms?

Check out websites that show pollen counts across the U.S. This can help you prepare.

Are you wondering how to protect yourself from allergies this summer? Here are three ways to make sure they leave you alone:

1. Research pollen levels
Before you leave for work, check the pollen levels. Never guess! Assuming they're low is like asking to have sneezing fits all day. There are plenty of reputable websites that provide national and local pollen counts.

Pollen.com, for example, has an interactive, color-coded map that shades the U.S. different colors (from red to dark green). Red means pollen levels are at their highest while dark green mean pollen counts are at their lowest.

At the moment, much of the Southern portion of the U.S. is shaded green while most of the West, Midwest and Eastern seaboard is draped in pollen. Pollen.com also lists cities that have the lowest and highest pollen levels.

2. Prepare
Once you research, prepare for allergies by making lifestyle adjustments. This could mean leaving earlier for work in the morning or getting out later to avoid pollen.

When you do leave for work, dress appropriately. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. Don't be afraid of allergies. Make it an excuse to dress in style!

3. Purchase the correct allergy products
There are plenty of ways to defend your home from unforgiving allergies. If the air is really dry, purchase a humidifier. If the opposite is true, buy a dehumidifier.

Ensure each room is well protected from allergens. Just because you don't sneeze and cough in your living room doesn't mean you won't in your bedroom. If this is the case, line your bed with allergy bedding.
