Give your home a deep weekly scrubbing to minimize allergies

If you have severe allergies, minimizing your symptoms will often require a multi-pronged approach, involving medication and significant changes to lifestyle and environment. One of the best things you can do to decrease your allergy flare-ups is adhere to a rigorous cleaning regimen in your home, with an extra-deep scrubbing every week. Indoor allergen triggers like mold, mildew, dust and dust mites can get exponentially worse when left to their own devices. Here are some tips for keeping your home spotless:

Change bedding

Change and wash sheets and blankets in hot water. Be sure you are using allergen mattress covers and bedding from the Allergy Be Gone website to minimize dust mite presence in your bed. (Dust mites are one of the leading indoor allergy triggers!)

Dust

At least once a week, you should give everything in your home an extra-thorough dusting, including knick-knacks, books, windowsills, door and window frames, ceiling fans and hard furniture. Vacuum upholstered furniture, carpets and vents, and throw machine-washable rugs, stuffed animals and pillows in the washer. Run a damp mop over hard floors.

Monitor moisture

If your home gets too humid, mold and mildew might start to grow. This can exacerbate allergy symptoms and may even be dangerous for non-allergy sufferers too. If you live in a muggy climate, use fans and air conditioning to keep the air in your home from becoming too moist and stagnant. Consider investing in a dehumidifier to cut down on excess moisture, and a hygrometer to precisely monitor moisture levels (available on Allergy Be Gone's website). Humidity should typically fall between 30 and 45 percent, and the ideal temperature is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
