During this year’s spring cleaning, don’t forget about your car

While you're probably already planning to clean and de-clutter various areas of your home as part of your annual spring cleaning ritual, it's important not to forget about other places where you spend a lot of time. Common allergens such as dust mites, pet dander and pollen can accumulate in your car, for example, causing you to have an unpleasant reaction during your daily commute. Plus, cold temperatures, snow and slush are bad for the outside of your vehicle, so it's a good idea to tackle these potential problems now that the weather is getting nicer.

Here are some tips for making your car feel like new:

Check your tires – The transition from cold to warm weather can throw off your tire pressure, and the winter months may have left behind some damage, so it's advisable to have your mechanic take a look and service them if needed.

Clean the rugs and seats – There are a number of carpet shampoos you can use that are specially made to target allergens. Also, there's probably dirt and debris hiding out in places that you can't even see, but a comprehensive vacuuming can tackle that.

Spray down the outside – Using a hose, carefully wash the exterior of your vehicle – including the underbody – being sure to spray dirt and salt out of semi-hidden areas like the wheel wells.

You can also purchase cleaning supplies and a respirator mask to ensure that your spring cleaning is as safe and symptom-free as possible. Finally, you might want to invest in a car cabin air filter, which removes pollutants from the air before they get inside your vehicle.
