5 ways to keep hotels allergy free

Make your patrons next stay enjoyable by decreasing allergy levels.

Serving great meals, hosting entertaining shows and having beautiful decor aren't the only characteristics of a great hotel. Managers need to ensure their patrons stay healthy by keeping their establishments clean of dust and allergens.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of times when guests spend more of their time sneezing and wheezing than enjoying the wonderful hotel accommodations. Here are five ways hotel managers can reduce allergy levels:

1. Change the HVAC filters
Over time HVAC filters get clogged with debris. Most homeowners don't change them enough, so imagine what it's like trying to remember to change the filters in a large hotel. Managers should monitor this continuously and make sure the air quality in each room is clean and healthy.

2. Clean thoroughly
You should never get a call from a guest complaining about mold in his or her room. This means the staff failed to clean them properly, or the bathroom fan isn't working. Mold can cause severe allergy reactions.

3. Post signs
Even if people have allergies, it doesn't mean they're well-informed on how to properly manage them. Educate your guests by posting signs or leaving pamphlets on allergy management, especially during peak season. Your guest will appreciate the gesture.

4. Close the windows
When allergen levels are high, keep the windows closed in the lobby and restaurant areas. During hot weather, turn the fans on instead.

5. Use allergy-free bedding
Allergy-free bedding such as pillow, mattress and box-spring encasings are the perfect way to cut down on allergy levels.
