3 ways cab companies can manage allergens

Public transit companies need to do more to reduce allergen levels in their vehicles.

Do you take a taxi to work every day? Public transportation can make life easier because you don't have to sit in traffic. However, the ride can be much less enjoyable if you're constantly sneezing and coughing the entire way to work.

Taxi companies need to focus on a number of items to please customers such as safety and reliability. However, comfort isn't always a major priority for taxi companies. Along with comfortable seats and a smooth ride, they should also ensure their vehicles have quality air. This can reduce allergies.

Here are three ways taxi companies can keep allergen levels down:

1. Change the air filters
Drivers often have their vehicle's oil changed but leave the shop without changing the air filters. The process is a bit different for every mode of transportation, but the idea is still the same: Switch out the air filters, and keep your patron's lungs clean and healthy.

2. Close the windows
Shut the windows when pollen levels are high. This might be a tough sell for many people, but those who have allergies will appreciate the gesture. At the very least, ask people stepping into your taxi whether they have allergies. If they do, follow up by asking if they'd like you to close the windows.

3. Take a different route
If you know a customer is highly allergic to tree pollen, don't drive through a heavily wooded area. The same can be said if they're allergic to ragweed. In this case, take an alternative route around fields.
