3 tips to fighting off fall allergies

Raking leaves helps rid your home of mold and mildew.

While fall is still a little over a month away, many allergies, which normally appear during this time of the year, have already begun to emerge. Many reports around the country indicate that one of the harshest allergies, ragweed, is already appearing a couple of weeks sooner than normal.

Allergy season was particularly and unusually severe for many areas of the United States because of the prolonged winter which condensed the season. Now, allergy suffers have to suddenly face the onslaught of fall allergies.

Here are three tips to help you prepare for fall allergy season:

1. Be prepared for ragweed

One tiny, yellow flower can produce up to 1 billion grains of pollen. It begins to bloom in August, peaks in mid September and then stops producing when the first frost hits. Close to 75 percent of Americans who have to deal with springtime allergies will also be allergic to ragweed. Keeping windows closed and using the A.C. can help manage ragweed symptoms.

2. Get rid of mold and mildew

Mold and mildew can thrive indoors and outdoors, and it doesn't die when the first frost strikes. They love to grow in damp places like fallen leaves and compost piles. That is why it's so important to rake leaves in the fall. Remove them from your yard and gutters.

3. Fight off dust mites

While you can't see them, dust mites are constantly scurrying around, feeding on flakes of dead, human skin. Sounds lovely right? They flourish in temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees. To help manage them, before you turn on central heating, clean the air vents. Also, cover your mattress and pillows in dust-proof covers.

Another way to manage allergens is to avoid triggers. Visit Allergy Be Gone's store for a wide range of allergy control products.
