3 spots inside your house that are rife with allergens

There has been a lot of talk about seasonal allergies lately, but there are also some key spots inside your home that could be triggering symptoms. Here are three rooms to be wary of:

  • Bathroom – Mold is a potentially hazardous fungus that thrives in damp, humid spots like the bathroom. Keep an eye on your shower curtain for signs of this fungus and use mold-killing formulas to clean your shower, sink and toilet.
  • Bedroom – No one likes to acknowledge the fact that they're sleeping alongside a plethora of microscopic creatures, but the fact is that dust mites can easily accumulate on your bedding if you aren't careful. The best way to combat these allergens is to wash your sheets in hot water on a weekly basis. You may also want to consider investing in hypoallergenic bedding, which is specially designed to prevent the buildup of dust mites.
  • Kitchen – The pet bowl, which is most often located in the kitchen, is a huge source of allergens. "The major allergen from animals is not their fur but proteins secreted by skin glands that are found in dander, in the saliva that sticks to fur when the animal ticks itself and in the animal's urine," reports Women's Health. "No need to get rid of your furry friend through! To keep allergies to a minimum, bathe your pet weekly, which will help remove dander."
