2 tips to quickly clean your home and rid it of allergens

Clean quicker by ditching the broom for the vacuum.

Do you walk into your home and feel like you just strolled into the Dust Bowl? Do you take a shower with bits of mold hanging from the shower curtain? This isn't healthy! And it could be contributing to your allergy symptoms.

While most of us associate spring and summer allergies with pollen, other allergens, such as mold, dust and dust mites, exist in our homes. The best way to reduce indoor allergies is by cleaning. Here are two tips on how to quicken the cleaning process:

1. Section off your home
Cleaning can be intimidating, especially if you have a big house or a lot of belongings. Start in one room and work your way around your residence. It may take awhile, but it could speed up the process by keeping you more organized.

However, if you're in a hurry, you may find yourself focusing too much on one room. In this case, Arianne Cohen, a contributing writer for Woman's Day, suggests that zone cleaning could hinder your performance. Instead she suggests focusing on activities such as dusting, washing glass and cleaning surfaces rather than the rooms. This could keep you more productive.

2. Minimize tools used
Jackie Harmon, co-owner of Healthy Clean, suggests ditching the broom altogether, according to Better Home and Gardens.

"Use a vacuum on all floor surfaces. It's quicker to use, plus you'll remove one lanky, awkward tool from the mix," she said.

You can also apply this concept to other cleaning processes such as washing the dishes. Don't clean them in the sink and the dishwasher. Use one or other.
