Spring cleaning tips for college students

College life can certainly be busy and overwhelming. When you're not studying or hanging out with your friends, you're probably catching up on some much-needed sleep. But, while you may not have a lot of free time, it's still important to clean and declutter your dorm room every once in a while.

Here are some tips to get you started:

Focus on overlooked areas – Hopefully you and your roommates have been keeping the space relatively clean throughout the year, but there are certain easy-to-miss areas that you may have forgotten about during the busy semester. Be sure to pay special attention to door frames, corners and spots underneath the furniture.

Pare down your book collection – As the end of the semester approaches, start thinking about which textbooks you can part with. Many college bookstores will buy back course materials for a reduced price. If that's not an option, you can always list them on eBay or Amazon. This is a great spring cleaning task because you can actually make some money off of it.

Put away your winter clothes – Dorm rooms are notorious for being small and cramped, so removing items you no longer need can free up some extra space and make the whole area feel less cluttered. Now that the warmer weather is here, you don't need all those sweaters and boots crowding your closet, so you may want to consider storing them at your parents' house until you need them again.

As always, when cleaning out any part of a temporary home, it's important for people who suffer from allergies and asthma to use cleaning products, such as those from Allersearch, that will effectively remove allergens without aggravating their symptoms. It's also advisable to invest in a respirator mask since these devices can ensure that you don't breathe in dust, mold, pet dander, pollen or other irritants.
