Remember to clean these frequently overlooked areas of your home

Last month, we published an article that focused on areas of the home people commonly forget about when they are engaged in their annual spring cleaning ritual. While it's easy to remember the larger tasks – some of which have probably been staring you in the face for the past few months – it's important to consider that dirt, grime and allergens can accumulate even in spots where they're not as noticeable.

Be sure not to overlook these spaces:

Junk drawers – It's not uncommon for people to put off de-cluttering these tiny storage areas. After all, if you call it a "junk drawer," it makes sense for there to be junk in it, right? Yes, but before it gets too close to resembling a trash can, it's probably a good idea to sort the items, dispose of what you don't need and organize whatever is left.

Purses and other bags – You may be surprised to see the amount of dirt these items can pick up over time. Set aside 30 minutes to clean out your bags and, if they're washable, throw them in with the next load of laundry to eliminate dust, pet dander or other allergens.

Trash cans – It does sound kind of silly to clean an item whose sole purpose is to hold garbage, but these containers can reach the point of being unsanitary if they aren't washed every once in a while.

As always, when cleaning out any part of the home, it's important for people who suffer from allergies and asthma to use cleaning products, such as those from Allersearch, that will effectively remove allergens without aggravating their symptoms. It's also advisable to invest in a respirator mask since these devices can ensure that you don't breathe in dust, mold, pet dander, pollen or other irritants.
