During this year’s spring cleaning, consider donating unwanted items to these organizations

Part of spring cleaning means sorting through clothes, linens, shoes and outerwear to determine which items you can part with for whatever reason. Perhaps you’ve lost some weight and those old jeans don’t fit anymore. Or, maybe that sweater your aunt gave you that you think is hideous could find a nice home with someone else.

While some people choose to sell these items on eBay or give them to family members as hand-me-downs, there are other options that can help make a significant difference in the lives of those who may not be as fortunate as you are.

You may want to consider donating your unwanted items to one of these organizations:

Big Brother Big Sister Foundation – By pairing at-risk children with adult mentors, this group provides children with invaluable one-on-one relationships that help foster their growth and happiness. In addition to that, Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation accepts clothing, bedding, appliances, sporting goods, electronics and more.

Donate Your Old Shoes – The name here is pretty self-explanatory. According to its website, the goal of this non-profit is to “put shoes on the shoeless worldwide.”

The Salvation Army – If you have clothes for men, women or children – or even home goods that you’re willing to part with – The Salvation Army makes it easy for you to donate. You can find a drop-off location near you or even schedule a time for a representative to come by and pick up your items. Proceeds from the organization’s stores help fund their adult rehabilitation centers.

During this year’s spring cleaning, don’t forget to check the Allergy Be Gone website for cleaning products, vacuum cleaners, respirator masks and other essential items. If you have allergies or asthma, these products can ensure that you remove common irritants from your home and keep your lungs protected while you’re at it.
