Spring allergy season off to an early start in Tennessee

As spring approaches in Tennessee, WBIR-TV reports that some people are already beginning to feel the effects of spring allergies. According to the source, this year is expected to be particularly bad for allergy sufferers due to all the rain, snow and ice the state experienced over the past few months. However, experts say that it's hard to tell when spring allergy season will be in full effect and how bad the triggers will be just yet.

"We really don't know. We're going to have to see how the weather is. We going to see how much warmth is there and how much rain is there. But you can count on one thing, spring hay fever will be here," Dr. Robert Overholt of the Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center told the source.

Fortunately, there are steps allergy sufferers throughout the southeastern state can follow to keep symptoms under control this spring, like getting started on their allergy medication before their noses start running and their eyes begin itching.

"If you can start using your topical nasal steroids, your topical antihistamines, then when the hay fever season comes you'll have some medicine on to protect you," explained Dr. Overholt.
